Whole Person Drumming & Wellness Livermore Adult Education Through RhythmThis program is to enhance personal developmental skills through the participation in group activities. Participants will be guided into rhythmic images and self-awareness through the use of music. The musical group experience helps the participant to observe, to listen, to feel, and to move through through the use of song, percussion instruments, claps and movements. The grant will provide start-up funds needed to purchase drums, bells and other equipment needed for music and movement education. | $3,500 |
Fusion "Teen Zine" Livermore Public Library The grant will be used to fund a teen magazine "Fusion"which is an art and literary magazine created by Livermore teens to showcase the artistic talents of Livermore teen artists, poets and writers into a free tabletop publication that may be enjoyed in local doctors' offices, hospitals, restaurants, wineries, businesses, schools and libraries throughout the community. It will be published semi-annually and will also be available on-line through the Library's web-site. United 4 Life Tri-Valley Youth United This project is for a youth depression awareness and suicide prevention program. Unite 4 Life plans to educate students, school staff and parents on the issues of depression and offering the community resources to intervene when a young person is at risk. They want to create an informative, interactive web- site that can be accessed by both teenagers and parents. They also want to launch a very visible city- wide marketing campaign to share facts about depress- ion and suicide as well as getting out their name and toll-free direct line phone number into the community. First goal is to raise awareness in our community on the issues of depression and making it okay to begin to talk about it. | $5,800 |
Tri-Valley Youth Court Center for Community Dispute Settlement This request is for start up costs associated with the new program, Tri-Valley Youth Court. They were asked to develop a local youth court as an adjunct to the traditional justice system. This will address early stages of juvenile delinquency by providing restorative measures for first time offenders. The offenses are limited to misdemeanors and will not include violent crimes. It is a voluntary process and is not about guilt or innocence. Offenders must admit their guilt and responsibility before they are admitted to the program. They will begin hearing cases January 2008. | $7,500 |
